Elmore FC v Exmouth Town Res FC
Top of the table clash.
Exmouth Town Reserves were our visitors this weekend at Horsdon Park.
This was going to be probably our toughest test to date, as this would be a 1st v 2nd fixture, and exmouth were confident of coming to take the crown of being first to beat us.
The game started at a decent pace, but we were little sloppy giving the ball away too easily at times, and our tempo was a little lower than normal, which gave the visitors the chance to try and apply pressure early on.
The 1st half ebbed and flowed from end to end, our visitors not giving keeper John Wannell
to much to make him worry about, and as the half continued some pressure on their box told as Jordan Bastin
was bundled over, and a penalty was given.
stepped up to take it, and cool as anything smashes the ball high into the net giving the keeper no chance, 21 minutes gone and we take the lead 1-0.
Pressure continued and chances came and went, but neither same could add to the scoreline before halftime, so we went in at the break 1-0 up.
The 2nd half saw us take a little more control of the ball and the game, and with a better tempo from the whistle it was Jesse Howe
causing a nuisance of himself in the Exmouth box again, and some poor defending saw Jesse Howe
pushed over to give us another penalty, and up stepped Isaac Furness
again to place another cool finish giving the keeper no chance, 47 minutes gone and its 2-0 with Isaac picking up his 2nd goal of the game.
We continued to control the best of the 2nd half but weren’t able to add to the scoreline, our visitors put up a spirited and sometimes rather physical fight, but to no avail unfortunately for them.
Another good win for us against our biggest test to date, and we opened up a 6 point gap at the top of the table currently.
Next weekend we welcome Seaton Town FC to Horsdon Park in yet another home game.
Hopefully another chance to pick up 3 points, and it would be good to see the Elmore faithful out to cheers us on....
