Elmore v Upottery
Another good victory at Horsdon.
Another good victory at Horsdon Park saw us taking on Upottery FC, and after a slightly lethargic performance on Saturday the players needed to lift there game against a hard working upottery side.
The game started at a better pace, and with the players looking like they are now settling into the new system of play, we went straight onto the front foot. Movement and tempo were a lot sharper, causing our visitors problems from the start. And as with saturday it wasn't too long before the home crowd had something to cheer. As with saturday, it was Tom tricker who started the ball rolling with a quality strike to make it 1-0 on 13 minutes. And with only 2 minutes having passed another attack saw Matt Harvey rise in the box to head home a cross and make it 2-0. That was then followed shortly after when Callum Old
found space to fire home our 3rd of the game on 18 minutes and put the game out of reach of our visitors.
After that quick flurry of goals we continued to put pressure on the visitors goal, but couldn't quite add to our tally. And with just over 10 minutes of the half left, we gave upottery a free kick outside the area, and a chance to claw a goal back, which was taken in some style as Wannell was left rooted to watch the ball tucked neatly into the corner and out of reach, 3-1.
This then gave the visitors a boost for the last 10 minutes of the game, but they couldn't add to their tally, and the half ended 3-1 to Elmore.
The 2nd half started with us carrying on at the same tempo as we started the first half, and pushing upottery onto the back foot again. The visitors did have their moments in the half, but without really troubling the home keeper again.
With all the pressure came more results, as Ashton Hewitt
found himself once again driving at the box, and this time unchallenged, drove into the box and unleashed a low drive passed the keeper into the far corner giving the keeper no chance of stopping it. 4-1 and now cruising on 64 minutes. We had more chances come and go, but without the cutting edge to add to our tally. But then on 85 minutes, a Jordan Bastin
free kick looked goalbound, only to leave the keeper scrambling, but saw his effort ricochet off the crossbar and fall to a waiting Jesse Howe
who headed the ball home and take the score to 5-1.
No more goals were added to the scoreline, and the game ended with Elmore still on top, and happy with a fine 5-1 victory.
This Saturday we travel to Beer Albion FC for our next match. Never an easy place to play, with a hard working home team, and no doubt a vocal home crowd to cheer them on, this could be a tricky affair.
Come and support your local team as we travel to the Seasiders for a 3 o'clock kick off.....
