Elmore v Witheridge

Another solid performance.

Another solid performance saw us beat Peninsula Premiers Witheridge FC at Horsdon Park.
After recent results we knew it was important to keep the momentum building towards the start of the season. And with a good start to the game we soon to control of things with some superb movement and control of the ball to frustrate our visitors. This dominant start was almost undone by a loose pass, picked up inside our half, and a speculative lob saw keeper Wannell stranded and could only watch as their best effort of the game rebounding off the crossbar and falling to a recovering defender.
After that the fell into a regular pattern of Elmore attacking and Witheridge defending throughout the half, and with only a rare appearance in our half and little threat at goal, it wasn't long before we took the lead through an Elmore favourite in Kieran Rapo. It wasn't long after that another favourite Matt Harvey rose to head home and make 2-0, and take further control of the game. Not long before half time saw Jordan Bastin step up to make it 3-0 and surely round off a solid first half..
The 2nd half started in much the same manner as the 1st finished, and our high tempo and slick movement between player and ball was just too much to handle, and it wasn't long before Jesse Howe stepped up to make it 4-0 with his first of the game. Shortly after Jesse found himself free in the box to head home a cross from wide and his 2nd to make it 5-0.
The visitors were now chasing play all over the pitch, and to their credit they never gave up and battled all the way through the game! Unfortunately for them this wasn't enough, and another fine cross from wide saw Jesse Howe once again left unmarked to turn home for his hat trick. 6-0!
The goals kept coming, and Tom Tricker added his name to the scorers list, to make 7-0, closely followed by Jordan Bastin for his 2nd of the game as he followed in on a rebound from a finely struck Tricker free kick, and making it 8-0.
But the squad weren't quite finished as another Elmore favourite Callum Old, who along with Kieran Rapo, put in a superb shift up front to cap off his game and ours by turning home a superbly crossed ball with a sublime touch, and making the final tally 9-0 to Elmore.
Probably not as strong an opposition as expected, but the team dynamic and work rate was fantastic, and with solid performances from the whole squad throughout it certainly is looking good for the future of the club!
Thank you to Witheridge for the game, and best of luck for your season.
Next up we welcome Sidmouth Town FC to Horsdon Park on Friday 4th with a 7.30 kick off! Hopefully the local support keeps growing and enjoying the quality of football we're trying to produce!!?
